Fun for kids: We run our ShowKids Performing Arts workshops from the Waltham Forest United Reformed Church on Orford Road (Wednesdays) and the Greenleaf Centre just off Hoe Street (Thursdays), putting us at the heart of Walthamstow’s community, where loads of family-friendly events go on. We love Orford Road and the brilliant indie shop WORD which sells kids clothes and toys as well hosting socials and events for families.
Eating around E17: Our favourite child-friendly places to eat include Sodo pizza; community coffee shop Wynwood Art District for cake and homemade sandwiches; Today Bread for gorgeous sourdough sandwiches; Buhler and Co for brunch; and family-friendly pub The Castle for a Sunday roast.
Art and culture: Walk around Walthamstow and art will find you, but Wood Street Walls offers tours of the street murals. E17’s art is eclectic but we love to explore the dazzling collection of neon signs at God’s Own Junkyard just as much as the textiles and paintings at the William Morris Gallery. Kids love the Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum for its old fire engine and model railway. And we recommend Craftworks Café, on Hoe Street, where families can try ceramic painting over food, wine and coffee!
Great outdoors: We love strolling around Lloyd Park which has a lovely café, tennis courts, and a great food market on Saturdays. Close by is the Walthamstow Wetlands, a haven for wildlife centred around a reservoir which supplies 3.5 million people! There’s also Walthamstow marshes and Epping Forest on the doorstep. And if it’s an indoor kind of day, head to Waltham Forest Feel Good Centre. Not only does it have a gym and pool, but a trampoline park, two-storey soft play area and a relaxing spa.
