Gorgeous green spaces: Need the kids to let off steam? We love Hackney Downs Park for its wide-open space, great children’s playground and the festival which brings music, food and colour. Walk south from the River Lea towpath, past brightly-painted barges, and you’ll find Millfields Park on one side and Hackney Marshes on the other – no marshes of course, just wild nature and an incredible 88 football pitches. Who needs the countryside?
Activities galore: Enjoy the colourful chaos of soft play centre Kidzmania or the soothing historic surroundings of The Round Chapel, which hosts everything from gigs to Santa’s grotto- and our very own ShowKids Performing Arts workshops on Mondays from 4-6pm. There’s always the lovely Hackney Picturehouse close-by too.
Food, glorious food: If it’s Saturday head to Chatsworth Road Market to treat your taste buds to a trip around the world via its eclectic food stalls – Vietnamese pho, Greek kebabs, Scottish cheese toasties, French pastries and much more. We love Jim’s Café because it’s child-friendly with high-chairs for the little ones, and its burgers are up there with the best!
Shopping local: It’s so easy to support local businesses in Clapton. We recommend Palm 2 – the shop that seems to have everything – or Casey’s Deli for fresh produce from the local area. And if you need to pick up a present we can’t resist a browse in Triangle to see its cute kids toys and organic clothes.
